The South Asian satellite GSAT-9 ,Geostationary communication satellite was realeased by ISRO with the help of GSLV-F09 into a geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO) at Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR),shriharikota. It was the eleventh flight of GSLV (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle) . Also it was the consecutive 4th flight with CUS(cryogenic upper stage).
The GSAT-9 weighs about 2230 kg having an overall length of about 49.1 m .The primary application of this satellite is to provide various communication applications in KU-band with coverage over south Asian countries.The main structure of the satellite is cuboid in shape while covering around a central cylinder carrying a communication transponders operating in KU-band.

The ultra tripple junction solar cells generate about 3500 watts of electrical power using two ultra solar arrays of GSAT-9 .The AOCS (Attitude and Orbit Control System) using momentum wheels, thrusters and magnetic torquers maintains its orientation.The propulsion system of the satellite consists of LAM(Liquid Apogee Motor) and chemical thrusters using liquid propellants for initial orbit raising and station keeping.It has also plasma thrusters for station keeping.
